The Castaic Education Foundation has awarded $14,807.26 in grants to fund a variety of programs and educational resources at schools in the Castaic Union School District in 2011. Programs and resources range from science and art lab materials to video production equipment, plus many more worthwhile endeavors that benefit our students. The Foundation is dedicated to ensuring that local teachers have the tools needed to provide the most comprehensive education to students, and that students have access to the latest technology and educational resources that will give them the competitive edge they need for academic success. Throughout the year, the Foundation holds a number of special events, ranging from a wine-tasting to a golf tournament. Funds raised by these events and other sources are provided to teachers in the form of grants. Teachers who have great ideas but lack the financial resources to implement them apply for the grants, whose funding is determined after a thorough review process. The Foundation has achieved its goal of providing a computer lab at each of the district's elementary schools. In addition, the organization has provided funds for replacement computers, updated technology and computer skills training. This investment is in direct response to the needs of teachers, who recognized needs and articulated them in the form of grant requests. A Big 'Thank You' to Those Who Attended Our Wine-Tasting Event The Castaic Education Foundation thanks all who participated in our successful Sweethearts for Education Wine Tasting Event at Salt Creek Grille on Feb. 10. All who participated helped strengthen our efforts to maintain high-quality programs for our students. "The donations received from past events have allowed us to give grants to help establish science and art labs at each of the elementary schools in the district," said Sabrina MacDougall, chair of the Castaic Education Foundation. "The funds also allow us to grant teachers the needed resources for other educational projects and programs." |
